People have been left questioning the quality of women's clothes after a couple put durability to the test after receiving matching pyjamas from a high-end retailer. The unnamed couple had been gifted matching Ralph Lauren pyjamas for , featuring a navy design with a portrait of an animal skiing.
But the difference in the quality of their pyjamas was noticeable at first glance. Sharing pictures on Reddit, she captioned the photo: "My boyfriend’s parents bought us matching two years ago. We always wear them together. Look at how poor the woman’s version is, and it doesn’t even have pockets (unlike the male version)."
People quickly took to the comments on to discuss the apparent lack of quality in the women's version, with some insisting they will only buy men's clothes to ensure they get good quality materials. The anonymous person wrote: "I always buy men's trousers for this reason".

In the picture, it's clear to see how the navy colour is less vibrant than on her boyfriend's matching pair, with bobbles also appearing in full force. One person wrote: "Women’s clothes are always made out of that slinky bu****** fabric."
A third said: "After doing my husbands laundry the dryer lint trap is basically empty. After doing mine and our daughter’s laundry, there’s enough lint in the trap to start a house fire."
Another said: "I'm so sick of retailers making women's clothing essentially disposable and priced higher." Some claimed women's clothes were predominantly made from polyester, while men receive the more expensive material of cotton.
One person suggested the reason they use different materials is to make them "feel softer" in the store, encouraging women to buy them. "I feel like a lot of women don’t know just how high men’s standards for clothing longevity are," she says. "Ask your boyfriend how old his oldest pair of underpants are."
Having compared some of their pyjamas online, it appears there may be a material difference. Women's Plaid Cotton-Blend Pyjama Trousers are made up of 58 percent cotton, 38 percent modal and four percent elastane.
Meanwhile, men's Polo Bear & Plaid Cotton Sleep Set are made up of 100 percent cotton. Another person wrote: "It's crazy that they sourced different material for the women's PJs, l would think it would be more expensive but I guess they decided ladies couldn't handle that material."
A report from Apparel Database found that materials vary between men and women. In a blog post, they wrote: "men's clothing is often made using sturdier, more durable fabrics, such as denim or canvas, while women's clothing may be made using softer, more delicate fabrics, such as silk or chiffon."
They added: "The production processes for men's and women's clothing may also differ in some ways. For example, women's clothing may require more complex sewing and finishing techniques, such as hemming or pleating, while men's clothing may be more straightforward to produce."
